I cannot endure to waste anything as precious as autumn sunshine by staying in the house. – Nathaniel Hawthorne
I think Nathaniel Hawthorne has it exactly right. The autumn sunshine is not to be wasted, and this year, we have had an abundance of it.
There is something about the fall season. Something borderline magical that makes us feel as if we are all young again. The beauty of the leaves and the abundance of pastimes brings it out in us. The smells and cool temperatures bring it out in us. It’s a season I anticipate each year.
The fall season is full of pastimes, and my family and I enjoy them all. Apple farm, pumpkin farm, bonfires, halloween, and mums.. yes, mums.
This fall season, my wife and I started out by taking our kids to Eckert’s Apple Farm, my wife’s favorite fall activity. This is a yearly tradition for our family.
Eckert’s is a local farm that has done well in it’s marketing efforts and has become a fall favorite for many St. Louis area families.
Our day at Eckert’s was an all around good time. Our daughters picked apples, rode carnival rides, took a wagon ride to the orchard. It was fun 🙂
Another bonus of a trip to the apple farm is the baked goods that are made with the apples 🙂 My wife, Katie, usually makes an apple pie. This year, she decided to change it up, so she made an apple spice cake. It’s safe to say she has become an excellent baker. It was wonderful.
Another family tradition is the trip to the pumpkin farm. Eckert’s also offers pumpkins, but for this we like to go to another local spot, Relleke’s Pumpkin Patch.
We like to go to Relleke’s for a number of reasons, but mostly because they offer so many fun things for the kids. They have corn mazes, super slides, haunted houses, face paintings, crafting booths, and of course, PUMPKINS!
I can go on and on with reasons I love the fall season.
Mainly, it is a time when happiness comes easy.
The fall season is a time family can get together and enjoy pumpkins, apples, mums, bonfires, smores, trick-or-treats, and all the other great things that come with it.
I hope you enjoy your fall as much as I enjoy mine 🙂
Thanks for reading.
