Volunteerism is the Gift Of A Lifetime
Volunteering is something we can all do as families and pass down to our children. To do so is giving our children a gift of a lifetime.
Today I’d like to introduce you all to a great volunteer organization. CAMA Helping Hands Ministries. CAMA is an acronym for Collinsville Area Ministerial Association. What makes this organization unique is that it is a coalition of all the Collinsville churches, regardless of denomination, working together to make a more powerful charitable impact.
To put it best, let me quote the SS. Peter and Paul website.. “Collinsville Area Ministerial Association (CAMA) sponsors the volunteer group called Faith in Action . The mission of CAMA is to put our faith into action by doing what we are called to do: to reach out and serve one another as friends and neighbors of a united faith community. This association involves all churches in the Collinsville area. The area Pastors gather on the first Tuesday of the month to meet, share concerns and fellowship”
I started volunteering at CAMA this year delivering food boxes to low income seniors in the Colinsville area and have loved it. The feeling I get from volunteering there has given me more of a gift than I could have possibly imagined.
How You Can Help
CAMA delivers food and toys to 200 families in the Collinsville and State Park area for Christmas. To do this, the organization needs help. Volunteers are welcomed from all faith backgrounds.
The following dates and times hopefully will help plan how you and your churches can take part in this ministry. CAMA cannot do this without your help.
On Saturday December 14 we will deliver 200 boxes of food and a coupon, showing the day and time the family can come for toys, to families in the Collinsville and State Park area. Volunteers are needed from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm (noon). We need as many as we can get to deliver the 200 boxes of food. We need some volunteers with cars who can deliver the food and others to ride with the drivers to carry the boxes to the family’s door. Normally we have the majority delivered by 10:30 am but it all depends on the number of volunteers. The more the merrier.
On Wednesday December 18 at 6:30 pm we will setup the First United Presbyterian
Church Fellowship Hall to distribute toys for the families. We will setup tables and
layout toys by age group. We then must count all the toys and divide them by three. We divide them because we have the families come in at three different times. It makes it fair so everyone has an almost equal opportunity. We need many volunteers to accomplish this. We are here from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm.
On Thursday, December 19 we will distribute toys to the families having a coupon given to them with their food. We need volunteers from 6:00 pm to approximately 10:00 pm. The families will come in starting at 6:30 pm. The families are divided up by 1/3. I/3 will come in at 6:30, the second third will come at 7:30 pm and the third will come at 8:30 pm. We need volunteers to work with families as they go through and shop for their toys. It requires many volunteers to get all the families through.
Other Ways To Help
If your church or group wants to help by donating some of the food items, please let Michael know.
We will be spending approximately $3000.00 on toys this year and that is not enough. Anyone wanting to donate toys for this year’s distribution can drop them off at the pantry and we will add it to our toys.
We will try to provide families that can be adopted for this Christmas. If your Church, group or individuals are interested they can contact me in December. Last year you adopted approximately 12 families and provided a Christmas that truly blessed them.
To volunteer, you can either contact Mike at the below contact information, or just show up at the appointed times. Someone will let you know where the most help is needed.
